The Winds of Change are Upon Us!!
Oh My, does time fly or what. It has been 3 years plus since my last blog.
2013 is definitely a year of change. I became unemployed again. I turned 60, and my spouse was diagnosed with cancer. So many changes have come about since then.
In March we took another wonderful trip to the Emerald Isle to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. Chris got to play golf on one of the top 5 rated golf courses in the world. It was wet and cold, but he enjoyed every moment. Me, I enjoyed sitting in a warm room reading a book, and watching the mist lay softly on the near by mountain. It was a lovely day for both of us. I also enjoyed our drive to the Villages of my forefathers. We were able to locate the graveside of my 3 times Great Grandfather on my Grandmother Cusic's side. That is about as far as we can go, because the Church that held records of any further back was burned to the ground in the 1800's. Just to be in his presence was a wonderful moment.
April 1st was Chris's surgery. They removed the cancer, but a hairline margin showed a few cells left. So radiation is to be a follow up process.
By mid May, he decided he was ready to retire, so papers were filed, signatures were made, and May 1st became his retirement date. So with my unemployment status, and him ready to make a move out of California, we made the plans to move to Las Vegas in by the end of June.
We took a week and did a house hunting trip in mid May, expecting to repeat this before finding a residence. BUT, the cards were shuffled, and the hand was dealt. We found a house and grabbed it up. Our son works in Las Vegas, so he was able to stay at the house during the weekdays to keep it occupied until we arrived early July.
We survived the summer, learning the routine: Get all errands done before 10 am. Stay in the house during the heat of the day, and then when the sun goes down, go out and enjoy the nice evening.
It took awhile, but Chris started his radiation treatments in late August after we got back from a visit to his sister, Lyn, in Dallas. We were hit with a major aah shit when she let us know just before her birthday, she was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. We rushed to be with her during her immediate start of chemo. So she has been going through treatments during the same time Chris has been having his. When Chris finishes his treatments on October, we will either be going back to Dallas, or we will have Lyn come out here and be with us for awhile.
Let us all pray that the end of the year, and the coming of the new year will bring good things for us all!!
